TSIC goes beyond traditional mentoring for school success by providing participating students with a comprehensive array of services necessary to the attainment of a high school diploma followed by post-secondary education. TSIC staff, mentors, tutors, school personnel and health and human services agencies are enlisted to ensure that each student's needs are met. Activities are tailored to provide each student with the social, emotional, and academic skills necessary to gain self-efficacy, the ability to contribute to the community and overcome poverty. Once selected to enroll in our program and receive a Florida Prepaid scholarship, each student signs a contract promising to adhere to TSIC guidelines (i.e., maintain good grades, attendance, and behavior, while leading a crime-free and drug-free lifestyle until they graduate from high school).
Since 1995, Take Stock in Children (TSIC) statewide has provided 30,242 children with scholarships and mentors. Over 96% of TSIC scholars graduate high school and 96% go on to pursue a post-secondary education, with a 67% college graduation rate, well over the national average. Locally TSIC has served 1,400 of these students and awarded nearly $14.5 million in scholarships!
