The purpose of Beyond Rhetoric is to meet the social-emotional needs of youth in detention so that when they are detained, they will not feel alienated from the community, and when they get out, they will have a more successful chance of re-entry. We support children who are under the supervision of Maryland’s Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) by matching dynamic volunteers to at-risk youth through mentoring and leading educational, social and artistic programs that build the emotional, social and creative capacity of at-risk youth.
