Shakespeare Globe Centre-USA Inc. (SGC USA) works to support the mission of Shakespeare’s Globe (the reconstructed Globe Theatre in London), which celebrates Shakespeare’s transformative impact on the world by conducting a radical theatrical experiment. Inspired and informed by the unique historic playing conditions of two beautiful iconic theatres in London, its diverse program of work harnesses the power of performance, cultivates intellectual curiosity and excites learning to make Shakespeare accessible for all.
Founded by American actor Sam Wanamaker in 1974, SGC USA was a cornerstone in his quest to reconstruct the Globe Theatre and the transatlantic links remain to this day. Each year, the Globe’s artistic presence in the USA varies; from screenings across the country of productions filmed on the Globe’s stage, to small scale tours, to the Broadway transfers starring Mark Rylance of Richard III and Twelfth Night (2014-15),and Farinelli and the King (2017/18). SGC USA also helps support the Globe’s education activity. Every year thousands of US students from high schools and universities participate in a range of education programs in the US and at the Globe in London. Our flagship learning program is Rutgers Conservatory at Shakespeare’s Globe, which offers students intensive classical study. SGC USA also supports a collaboration between the Globe and the University of California Davis to establish a groundbreaking education program that will support a large number of US teachers in practical approaches to teaching Shakespeare.
SGC USA Patrons enjoy a range of benefits including priority booking and assistance with ticket purchases at performances in both the UK and US, invitations to special events, unique behind-the-scenes access, and more.
