About Us

The Master's degree program in Public Policy (MPP) equips students with the knowledge and skills to effectively address complex social problems. Our curriculumprovides students with the skills and perspectives required to formulate, implement, and evaluate public policies.

Whether it is protecting the environment, fighting poverty, improving transportation, or ensuring access to healthcare, you will need the right training to put your passion for making a difference to work. The Mills College MPP is designed to provide exactly that.

Our curriculum includes two levels of course work: an analytic foundation and an advanced professional curriculum. Previous course work (at Mills or elsewhere) may be applied to the foundation requirements, reducing the number of classes and time needed to graduate.

In our MPP Program, you will gain a wide range of essential analytic tools drawn from the disciplines of economics, law, philosophy, ethics, management, and political science—enabling you to arrive at a deeper understanding of public issues and potential courses of action. You will apply policy theory to many real-world problems, culminating in the Master’s Policy Report, which you will conduct for an external client as your final project. As you learn how to inform action with analytics, you will be preparing for a broad range of roles in advocacy, government, nonprofit, or corporate policy-making arenas.
