Traveling Stories is a 501c3 nonprofit organization working to outsmart poverty one book at a time & inspire a love for reading everywhere.
We are active both locally and internationally!
Since 2010 we have established seven international libraries and two local Story Tent programs with free literacy coaching for at-risk kids.
Our long-term goal is to establish libraries in every book-poor village around the world & to have Story Tent programs in every State!
We hold weekly "StoryTents" in unconventional places, like Farmers Markets, and provide free literacy training to children in underserved communities where the illiteracy rate is over 20%! Kids visit the StoryTent, pick out books that interest them, read out loud with a volunteer and earn book bucks for every book read. With their bucks, kids can buy prizes. This method has proven to turn even the most reluctant readers into avid ones! We also teach financial literacy by encouraging delayed gratification. Kids may choose to spend their book bucks right away on smaller items such as pencils and fruit snacks, or can choose to save their money to buy higher priced items such as a bike or easy bake oven.
