Crosspulse, Inc. has grown from the artistic vision of founding Executive/Artistic Director, Keith Terry, since 1979. The organization presents performances; produces and distributes audio and video recordings on our independent label Crosspulse Media; maintains a popular educational outreach program of in-school performances, workshops, teacher trainings and our Rhythm of Math kinesthetic learning methodology; commissions new work; produces a major festival; and tours ambitious, logistically complex work involving multi-national, multi-cultural and multi-lingual communication. Crosspulse ensembles have played in some of the world’s finest concert halls and festivals, as well as countless underserved schools. Crosspulse programs explore the vital role that rhythm plays in performing arts throughout the world, and how the commonality of rhythm connects us in unexpected ways. Keith Terry’s 2008 Guggenheim Fellowship as well as ongoing organizational support from the Hewlett Foundation helped Crosspulse launch the International Body Music Festival (IBMF), an annual, six-day event that is the only gathering of its kind. Produced in the San Francisco Bay Area and overseas, the 10th IBMF will be in Ghana 2018, as well as a myriad of 10th anniversary events around the Bay Area. The mission of Crosspulse is: Develop a core group of performers to present Body Music and related music, dance and theater arts; Produce live and recorded intercultural performing art works; Develop and teach a curriculum of Body Music, rhythmic skills, and intercultural ensemble awareness in various educational settings; Create programs that promote intercultural communication through the arts, with application well beyond the arts.
