  • About Us

Our mission is to work with and for D.C. area artists to create innovative, theatrical programming built around a musical core of opera, cabaret, and song. We are committed to an audience accessibility that preserves the vision and musical integrity of the original work, finds contemporary parallels and references, and shares the life-changing power of music.

Steady growth in attendance, increased artistic achievement, enhanced production values, critical and audience acclaim, all representing the culmination of a development process that started almost 17 years ago. The sense of excitement coming from the arts community and audiences ratifies our pride in being known as an organization producing thought-provoking, accessible programming each season, and suggests that the breadth, artistry, acclaim and reach of our programming should continue to strengthen.

Increase in number and quality of artists seeking work with us, with concomitant growth in new ticket buyers and supporters. Our season produces paid, career-building, artistically valuable jobs for over 300 artists and crew, while serving 7,000+ audience members, students and families with performances and community outreach events.
