About Us

CRT is Changing Lives by Preparing Our Community to Meet Life’s Challenges

For more than 50 years, the Community Renewal Team (CRT) has been transforming the lives of the people we serve. We connect people to resources, programs and services that resolve urgent needs, provide support for when individuals are the midst of a crisis and empower others to take steps to create their own opportunities.

Community Renewal Team helps individuals, families, and communities address the challenges they face in building a successful future. People of all ages turn to CRT for help with basic needs, relief during a crisis or support to make long term changes. We offer a wide variety of programs to residents of Central Connecticut from all backgrounds and income levels. Help can involve everything from childcare or housing to education or treatment.

We have always been driven by our purpose—which is to help people change their lives and create opportunities for themselves and their families. Even before Community Renewal Team was an official organization, our founders were on the leading edge of community change. As early as 1963, CRT was actively engaged in helping Hartford area communities which were experiencing the impacts of poverty.

Our Mission

Our mission, Preparing Our Community to Meet Life's Challenges, drives us to help everyone who comes to our door. As the community action agency for Hartford and Middlesex counties, CRT helps individuals and families access resources that will help them meet immediate and longer-term needs, improve job skills, maintain or increase their independence, stabilize living situations, and achieve educational goals. We know that our work matters to our community.
