About Us

The ACLU of Alaska is the Alaska affiliate of the national American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which is the nation’s oldest and largest protector of the Bill of Rights. We are Alaska’s premier civil rights and civil liberties advocate, and are a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that uses litigation, public policy advocacy, public education, communications with the media and our members, and coalition building and grassroots organizing to defend and expand a broad range of constitutional issues and individual rights and freedoms. As the guardian of the Alaska and US Constitutions, the ACLU-AK is dedicated to protecting and promoting the freedom of speech, right to privacy, religious liberty, reproductive rights, criminal justice reform and prisoners’ rights, LGBTQ matters, and the rights of Alaska Natives, immigrants, and other ethnic and racial minorities.
