Oakland Free School

Oakland Free School is the first independent, democratic school for self-directed learners ages 5-18, conveniently located in Downtown Oakland. School will open Fall of 2014 and we look forward to a serving a diverse, active group of founding families.

At Oakland Free School, all voices can be heard and all count equally, regardless of income, race, ability, age, or gender. Children are free to explore their interests and learn how, when, and with whom they desire. OFS is a model of direct democracy, inclusion, diversity and equality. It is at the forefront of working with youth of all ages to take responsibility for their own education and their own community.
