About Us

The mission of the Alabama Center for Sustainable Energy (ALCSE) is to accelerate the transition to sustainable, clean energy throughout Alabama. We do this by widely promoting sustainable energy as a feasible, state-wide goal, by executing high-impact clean energy projects across the State, and by providing people with information and opportunities to help make clean energy choices. We work with policy makers, public agencies, local governments, educational institutions, utilities, business and civic leaders and individuals to transform Alabama’s energy marketplace and beyond. ALCSE is committed to powering Huntsville with 100% clean and efficient energy by 2025 and Alabama by 2035.

The Need:

Alabama's clean energy future depends on a strong, low-carbon economy that provides abundant jobs and business opportunities, a high quality of life, resilient community infrastructure, and a clean, healthy environment. To bring about such a future requires a combination of regulatory and behavioral alignment to adopt clean energy.

Our Framework:

The US Army has established a holistic vision and framework to achieve 25 net zero installations by 2030. The Army believes that this approach is a force multiplier enabling the Army to appropriately steward available resources, manage costs and provide soldiers, families and civilians with a sustainable future.

We strongly believe that if net zero installations are a force multiplier for the military, they are also a force multiplier for our communities throughout Alabama. This commitment to a community-changing model represents not only a significant wealth creation opportunity, but also a clear path to mitigating an energy crisis in the making.

Our Bold Goals:

We are building comprehensive programming to transform the market and drive demand in five key areas with an immediate focus on education and infrastructure.

  1. Education: Change the way our community interacts with energy
  2. Structure: Make all buildings efficient
  3. Production: Switch all energy to locally produced renewable energy
  4. Transportation: Deploy electric vehicles and alternative transportation
  5. Infrastructure: Build the shared clean energy infrastructure both physical and intellectual
