Theatre of Yugen
Founded in 1978 by Yuriko Doi, Theatre of Yugen is committed to training in the classical Japanese theatre forms of Noh and Kyogen, and to bringing these unique art forms to US audiences by creating original works, presenting guest artists, holding workshops, and touring. In 1991 Theatre of Yugen opened NOHspace, a 55-seat theater in the Mission/Potrero district. Theatre of Yugen has been recognized by the Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle and by the Japanese government. Theatre of Yugen represented the US at the World Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan.
