About Us

The Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute provides professional training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis using a contemporary model of psychoanalytic thought relevant to individual and community life. Since its founding in 1932, The Institute has contributed to the expansion of the psychoanalytic education and knowledge through education and scholarship. The Institute’s Treatment Center provides psychoanalytically informed services on a sliding scale for children, adolescents and adults. Its community engagement programs bring psychoanalytic ideas to public discussions of cultural and social issues.

It is the mission of the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute to transform the lives of individuals, families and communities using psychoanalytic knowledge to help them grow and thrive.

Human beings and being human are at the core of the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute’s mission. The Institute is dedicated to advancing knowledge of human beings— their feelings, thoughts and behavior—and to improving people’s lives.

The Institute is committed to diversity and serves all faculty, students, consumers of therapy, and community members with respect and dignity. The Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, genetic information, marital or familial status, sex, age, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status or gender identity.
