About Us

The Thomas Jefferson Foundation is a private, nonprofit organization which owns and operates Monticello, the only home in America to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Monticello welcomes approximately 450,000 visitors annually, and we rely upon a dedicated staff of over 350 employees, interns, and volunteers to support our mission of Preservation and Education. We seek to preserve this historical site for future generations and welcome a global audience into a dialog about Jefferson's ideas. As the author of the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson's legacy has an enormous influence on the freedoms of our citizens and those in other countries around the world.

Please consider supporting our organization by joining our volunteer community. Volunteer opportunities exist in our Center for Historic Plants, the Jefferson Library, our Visitor Center, at special events and programs around the mountaintop.

Thank you in advance for your consideration!
