Rowdy Girl Sanctuary (RGS) provides sanctuary to farm animals at risk of being slaughtered and promotes an ethical vegan lifestyle. RGS seeks to educate the public on the Rowdy Girl story, plant based food options, FFA/4H, factory farming practices, and the devastating impact of animal agriculture on the environment.
Rowdy Girl Sanctuary (RGS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit farm animal sanctuary located in Waelder, Texas, on the former site of a cattle ranch. Founded in 2015 by Renee King-Sonnen—who went vegan and transformed her husband's beef operation into a haven for rescued farm animals—RGS is the first documented beef cattle ranch in the world to transition to a vegan sanctuary.
We are home to over 130 rescued farm animals, including cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, horses, and more. Our mission is to end animal exploitation and shift the cultural narrative by rescuing farm animals, educating the public, and supporting ranchers who are ready to transition out of animal agriculture.
Through programs like our Rancher Advocacy Program (RAP), our Rowdy Girl Story film and book, community events, and powerful storytelling on social media, we are changing hearts and minds—showing that ranchers can evolve, animals deserve respect, and a vegan world is not only possible, but inevitable.
We are powered by a small but mighty team that believes in the soul of animals, the urgency of climate action, and the sacred connection between activism and compassion.
Join us in creating a world where all beings are free.
