  • Mission

At Paws Place, our mission is life, and it's one life at a time. Since 1999, we have rescued, rehabilitated, and adopted dogs. As a 501C3, non-profit organization we rely completely on the generosity of individuals and businesses in our area who provide us with the much-needed financial support to run our organization. Paws Place is located in Winnabow, just off our Rt 87 on 17 acres of land. Our dogs are sheltered in a spacious, climate-controlled facility featuring 26 indoor/outdoor kennels, 5 quarantine kennels, 2 outdoor playpens and 3+ acres of walkable space.

    About Us

Paws Place focuses on rescuing dogs at risk of euthanasia from crowded county shelters across NC-and sometimes beyond, including SC, AL, LA, and even St. Croix. About 20% of the dogs we rescue are heartworm positive. We never shy away from complex medical cases, whether it's a dog needing specialty surgery or a mama-to-be.

Each year, we spend over half a million dollars on the care of our dogs, covering emergency and specialty surgeries, exams, x-rays, heartworm treatment, medications, spay/neuter, food, and more. Every dog is fully vetted before adoption-vaccinated, microchipped, spayed/neutered, treated for medical needs, started on preventatives, and most importantly, loved.

With a small paid staff, we rely heavily on our volunteers. Our Board of Directors is entirely volunteer-based and handles adoptions, payroll, bookkeeping, social media (with 28,000+ followers), kennel maintenance, and more.

We are 100% donation-funded. We welcome gifts of towels, blankets, dog food, and kennel supplies. Our wish list is regularly updated based on our needs. Monetary donations help us cover operating costs, vet care, food, utilities, and more.
