Mission

At Talking Eyes Media, we’re passionate about what we do, and we’re privileged to dedicate ourselves to stories that matter. As visual storytellers, we create powerful media for pressing issues. We produce documentary films, multi-media, books and exhibitions that actively stimulate dialogue and advocate for positive social change. We turn a probing eye on situations where people struggle unduly, where resources are poorly distributed, and where there’s tremendous opportunity to improve society for future generations. Our team is committed to uncovering the problems and celebrating the people who make a difference. We are determined to have an impact beyond publication and broadcast, and we invest ourselves in extensive outreach.

About

Talking Eyes Media (TEM) was founded in 2002 by Julie Winokur and Ed Kashi as a 501(c)(3) public interest organization. Since its founding, Talking Eyes has been at the forefront of multimedia storytelling, generating award-winning work on topics ranging from the uninsured in America to oil exploitation in the Niger Delta, from finding permanent homes for foster children to the residual impact of Agent Orange. We rely on support from foundations, non-profits and donations.

TEM has a multi-disciplinary approach, combining exceptional photography, writing, audio, video, and editing. We distinguish ourselves through our depth of coverage, quality of production, and the unique content of our projects. We draw on years of experience from the acclaimed filmmakers, photographers, graphic designers, and writers who contribute to Talking Eyes Media.

Social entrepreneurs, policy makers, private corporations and public organizations have effectively used our materials to put a human face on complex social issues and broaden public discourse. From concept to dissemination, Talking Eyes Media is involved in every aspect of bringing a project to fruition.

Our work has showcased at various festivals around the world and has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Wall Street Journal, National Geographic Magazine, AARP.org, MSNBC.com, MediaStorm, The Documentary Channel, and PBS stations nationwide. Our projects have won awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Press Club, World Press, Pictures of the Year, UNICEF, Media That Matters, and the American Society on Aging.
