  • Mission

The 4-H mission is to empower youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults. Through non-formal, research-based, experiential education activities, 4-H participants gain knowledge and life skills enabling them to become positive, productive, capable and compassionate members of their communities. 4-H has three primary program initiatives: citizenship; healthy living; and science, engineering and technology (SET).

    About Us

Youth learn leadership and life skills through a variety of projects with topics such as outdoor skills, leadership, communication, nutrition, healthy living and community service. "Learn by doing" is the 4-H club slogan. 4-H members don't just read about things; they do them. They make things. They take part in club meetings. They learn interesting new things. They learn to follow, and they learn to lead. They help their neighborhoods through service-learning activities.

Currently, in Orleans Parish, more than 400 youth benefit from 4-H programming on an annual basis We are always seeking additional dedicated volunteers to allow us to reach more youth with our programming efforts. 4-H is proud to be the only youth development program with direct access to technological advances from university research. 4-H’s learning opportunities are intentionally designed around four essential elements necessary for positive youth development by providing youth with what we refer to as the B-I-G M: a sense of belonging with a positive group, supervised independence, a spirit of generosity toward others and a wide variety of opportunities to master life challenges.

No experience in 4-H is necessary to volunteer with us. We offer opportunites for group, online and one-on-one training. Additionally, new volunteers have intensive support from an Agent throughout their first year of volunteering.
