Youth Garden Project
Mission
About Us
The Youth Garden Project began in 1996 as an opportunity for youth with court-ordered community service hours to complete their hours in an educational and nurturing environment. Founded by Sarah Heffron, the garden was in her backyard and served about a dozen youth in its first year.
Thanks to our partnerships and dedicated supporters, YGP has "grown" so much since we were founded! Today the Youth Garden Project sits on one and a half acres of land next to Grand County High School. We serve over 900 preK-12 youth each year though educational programming and volunteerism, and grow over 5,000 pounds of produce each season, with over 30% of that produce donated.
In 2025, 436 volunteers spent time in the garden helping to grow local, sustainable food. Whether it's a regular commitment, a one-time event, a service group, or any other level of involvement, we welcome community members and visitors of all ages to get involved at YGP and help us further our mission of growing healthy food, kids, and community.
