    Education

We seek to measurably improve public middle school education and teacher training through funding innovative programs, particularly in underserved communities in the United States. Many middle school students will require interventions and support systems to stay on the education track rather than becoming one of the growing statistics of high school dropouts. National studies clearly indicate that the habits and patterns set in middle school forecast success for students in their high school years.

The perfect storm – approaching adolescence and living in impoverished communities – may heighten the chances of students disengaging from school altogether. And sometimes this leads to a downward spiral of poor nutrition, substance abuse, delinquency, lack of employment and feelings of low self-worth.

Leading researchers document that community collaboration, strong role models, investments in education innovation, more accurate data and coordination with career development prepare our nation’s youth for productive lives in the working world.

    Solar Energy

We are focused specifically on driving awareness, education, training and hands-on application of solar as a practical and cost-efficient energy source. The cost of solar energy continues its steady decline. As costs decrease, solar energy gains more acceptance in many parts of the United States. Support for solar energy in the form of feed-in tariffs, net metering, federal and state tax credits and projects supported by foundations like ours continue to provide the production volume necessary to drive down solar energy costs.

With growing support, solar energy is on the path to become a low cost way to make electricity – providing local employment, lower energy costs and a healthy environment. With the growing market of photovoltaics, the nation can expect to see long-term savings for families in need and opportunities for community members to give back, while also preparing workers for careers in the solar energy industry.
