  • About Us

Founded in April 2007, Vaquita.org is the vision of a small group of Mexican, US and British individuals who were first hand witnesses to the extinction of China's baiji river dolphin. They established Vaquita.org to ensure that the lessons from the extinction of baiji were used to save Mexico's vaquita from suffering the same fate. Vaquita.org is a network of world-class marine mammal scientists, fisheries economists, project management specialists, professional fundraisers and communication experts. The organization develops, implements and funds community participation-based conservation initiatives that aim to reduce vaquita by-catch to zero, improve the lives of local fishing communities and encourage the equitable and sustainable use of fishery resources within the northern Gulf of California.
