  • About Us

Olazul, a 501.c.3 non-profit under fiscal sponsor Trust for Conservation Innovation, is tackling our global fisheries crisis by designing sustainable ocean livelihoods for coastal communities.

Oceans provide one-fifth of the world’s protein, but destructive fishing methods and overharvesting imperil future yields. When fisheries collapse, artisanal fishing communities suffer most. Olazul works with vulnerable fishing communities to create new ocean-based jobs that reduce poverty and support conservation. We are currently working with fishing communities in Mexico and Indonesia to design sustainable methods for producing seaweed and aquarium fish for consumer markets. Once proven, we plan to scale these production systems through local ownership agreements that prioritize marine conservation and community development.
