FTSJS, located in Bon Repos, is the only school teaching the practice of social work in Haiti. It is a department of the long-established Episcopal University of Haiti in Port au Prince and is accredited through the parent university. Whereas in the past social work has been done primarily by foreign social workers employed by NGOs --who often didn't understand the culture and had a short-term commitment to the country --the school's mission is to train talented Haitians to fill the many social work needs within the country.
The campus -- shared with a Brazilian organization, Vivario, which does peace building through youth sports -- is peaceful and spacious. So, even in the midst of chaotic times in Haiti, it offers a respite.
Education Haiti/Edikasyon Ayiti is a Maine-based non-profit that works to support the school.
