  • About Us

Explore the unique ecosystems of the San Francisco Bay at Aquarium of the

Bay! As the only Smithsonian Affiliated Aquarium in California,

Aquarium of the Bay provides an unmatched lens into the Bayʼs

amazing and diverse marine life. Locate at the world-famous PIER 39 on

San Franciscoʼs iconic Fisherman's Warf waterfront, the Aquarium has

750,000+ gallons of salt water within its galleries and is home to over

24,000+ marine and terrestrial animals including sevengill sharks, bat

rays, sea jellies, river otters, and so many more. Most of the

Aquariumʼs marine life can be seen through its magnificent 300-footlong

crystal-clear acrylic tunnels, offering an unparalleled view of

the local aquatic life. Guests are also treated to a hands-on experience in

the Touch the Bay Gallery on the Aquariums 3rd floor, where they can

touch baby sharks, bat rays, sea stars, and anemones; and no trip to

the Aquarium would be complete without a visit to the North American

River Otter exhibit, where 4 frisky river otters, romp, swim, sleep, and play!

An institution of the Bay Ecotarium, Aquarium of the Bay has a shared mission to protect,

restore, and inspire conservation of San Francisco Bay and its watershed, from Sierra to the

Sea™. With a focus on conservation through education, Aquarium of the Bay is the only

Aquarium dedicated to the diverse marine life and distinctive ecosystems of San Francisco Bay

    and its watershed.
