About Us

College Bound was founded in 1991, on the premise of pairing students with adult volunteers to work toward academic goals that will foster meaningful and effective mentoring relationships. The mission of College Bound is to prepare public and public charter school students in the metropolitan D.C. area to enter college, earn a degree, and achieve their personal and professional goals. Through a combination of mentoring, tutoring, college prep, and scholarship opportunities, College Bound provides these underserved 8-12th grade students with access to one of life's greatest gifts - the opportunity to obtain a college education. The Academic Mentoring Program The Academic Mentoring Program matches students with college educated mentors, who aid them in the college preparatory process. Students and mentors work weekly on homework, within the curriculum, and on various college preparation activities. Students who participate in the Academic Mentoring Program also participate in numerous enrichment activities, such as college tours and career fairs, and are eligible for the College Bound Scholarship. Enrichment activities -Senior Retreat is an opportunity for seniors to receive an in-depth overview of the college application and financial aid processes. -College Tours:During the fall semester, students spent 1-2 days visiting schools within the local area. In the spring, students take a 4-day trip to visit schools outside the region. -Taste of College Night is our annual college fair and holiday dinner. Partners represent their alma maters and offer students information about a wide array of higher education options. -Career Night, our annual career fair, provides students with the opportunity to participate in roundtable discussions with local professionals in various career fields. -The End of the Year Celebration, is our graduation and recognition banquet. We award scholarships and additional honors to students, partners, community individuals and local agencies during this event. What other services does College Bound offer?
