About Us

Launched in May 1992, Big Apple Greeter's mission is to enhance New York City's worldwide image and enrich the New York experience by connecting visitors with knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteers.

Through the work of a small dedicated staff and a committed corps of volunteers, Big Apple Greeter promotes a friendly, inviting and manageable image of New York, bolsters tourism and economic development for all five boroughs, and creates opportunities for New Yorkers to show pride in their city.

Our volunteer Greeters can show visitors what New York City life is really like, by showing neighborhoods throughout the five boroughs that most visitors never see - where New Yorkers live, work, and raise their families. Greeters are reliable volunteer "friends", not professional tour guides, and meet up to 6 visitors who are traveling together. Our visitors come from all over the world, so volunteers with language skills are welcome, as well as English-only speakers and persons with a disability.
