First Look Institute (FLI) champions fearless reporting, bold storytelling, and speaking truth to power, all in service to a healthy democracy and vibrant culture. Since its founding in 2013, FLI has spared no effort to create a more informed, engaged, and responsive public. FLI exposes injustice, invest in diverse and innovative storytellers and filmmakers, and honor the tradition of defending those who cannot defend themselves.

FLI is home to The Intercept, dedicated to fearless, adversarial journalism and podcasts that boldly hold authorities accountable; Field of Vision, a groundbreaking, filmmaker-driven documentary unit committed to supporting diversity and innovation in nonfiction filmmaking; and the Press Freedom Defense Fund, which assists journalists and whistleblowers who challenge press freedom restrictions, providing them with financial and legal support wherever a substantial public interest is at stake. These three distinct programs empower some of the most ambitious and independent voices in journalism, film, and free speech activism.
