Acorn Community Farm

About Us

Acorn is a member of the Federation of Egalitarian Communities, which strives to create intentional communities based on egalitarian values - we are income sharing, non-sexist/ageist/ableist, and welcome LGBT folks. We are a group 23 members, a handful of interns, 6 cats, and 2 dogs. We run our organically-certified farm and also own Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, recently listed as one of the best seed companies in the US by Mother Earth News! The goal of our business is the preservation and promotion of heirloom, organic, non-GMO seed and protection of biodiversity - while the business also allows us to maintain our community's needs.

We attempt to be ecologically responsible in our way of life - we are primarily (though not exclusively) vegan/vegetarian, eat communally at least once a day, purchase almost all organic/fairly traded foods, and are always looking for new ways to harmonize our relationship with the environment. We also are involved with outreach in the communities movement and have active delegates in the Federation of Egalitarian Communities, participate in Food Not Bombs, and are currently attempting to diversify our membership in terms of age, background, race, and class.
