Our mission is to provide a safe environment, support services, and an avenue to independence for those in a housing, crisis. We believe that all people deserve the basic necessities of life, and as part of the community we live in, we serve this purpose:
To treat all people with dignity
To offer support and opportunity
To practice responsible stewardship
In the spring of 2015 Summerville Mayor Bill Collins helped a group of concerned citizens form the Dorchester County Community Outreach (DCCO), a nonprofit corporation established to address the ongoing problem of homelessness in the Summerville area. The DCCO board was formed and incorporated. DCCO is registered as a public charity in South Carolina with a 501 (c) (3) status. The Lowcountry Home of Hope, the first of their facilities, opened in October 2015.
We currently operate two shelters, Home of Hope, our mens shelter which houses 16 guests and Hope's House, our womens shelter which houses 8 guests.
