  • Mission

Literacy Network helps adults in Dane County build skills, reach goals, and connect communities.

    About Us

Literacy Network teaches reading, writing, communication, and computer skills to Dane County adults so they can achieve financial security, well-being, and deeper engagement with their families and the community. Here in Dane County, more than 55,000 adults struggle with low literacy. Adult literacy education leads to long-term improvements in the lives of students and their families. Literacy Network helps adults:

    • improve their job situation
    • communicate better with their children's schools
    • gain their U.S. citizenship
    • obtain their high school equivalency degree
    • take the next step to college and other certifications
    • learn the basic reading, writing, and English language skills that many of us take for granted
We offer free group classes and trained volunteer tutors at locations throughout the Madison area. Programs operate on a three semester schedule: spring, summer, and fall, and we recruit interns and tutors every semester. New volunteers receive position-specific training, in-service opportunities, and dedicated staff support.
