The Sanctuary at Soledad Goats

About Us

The Sanctuary at Soledad Goats was founded by Carol and Julian Pearce, Southern California goat farmers who are well known for their fine artisanal goat cheeses and warm presence at the local area markets. After many years of informally rescuing animals from farms and shelters - saving many from being euthanized - they finally decided to make it official. They created The Sanctuary at Soledad Goats -Where Every Animal Has a Home in August 2013. The Sanctuary at Soledad Goats is a 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue organization funded by donations from our generous community of supporters. In addition, all the proceeds from the sales of the goat cheese go to support The Sanctuary at Soledad Goats.

At The Sanctuary, animals are known by name and treated like family. Carol’s background in veterinary medicine matched with Julian’s expertise in ruminant nutrition means they are closely attuned to the health of the animals. They have successfully brought back to health many animals who were near death or in other desperate straits. When it’s time for the mother goats to have their babies, Carol and Julian deliver the kids themselves. Many of these same baby goats later visit with customers at the Hollywood Farmers Market!

The Sanctuary at Soledad Goats believes that a working farm and a dynamic animal rescue can go hand-in-hand. We have a moral imperative to honor and respect the animals who have spent years in service to us on farms, as well as those animals who need a new home and a little love and kindness to survive.
