The Spaces Between Your Fingers Project

The Spaces Between Your Fingers Project is a grassroots community art project.

We ask people to isolate a specific memory—a snapshot of their experience—and to share what they learned from that experience with a future reader. The message is inscribed on an old-fashioned postcard and mailed to the SBYF Project.

Instead of signing their names, participants trace their hands onto the cards—a unique “handprint signature”—so that someday a future reader might find the anonymous handprint that matches their own...and know that’s the message they were meant to find.

As the postcards come in, each is individually catalogued into The William B. McNamee Wisdom Library using the same rigorous archival standards as the Library of Congress.
