Meru Animal Welfare Organization was founded in 2010 with the aim of promoting, improving and developing any matter concerning the protection of animals and understanding of animals among the people of Meru District, Tanzania without gaining any profit. MAWO strives to achieve this aim through pursuing the mandate described below.

Those animals should be respected as living creatures that experience pain, fear, and suffering.

4. Mission

To protect all animals from torture, abuse, cruelty, diseases, and painful killing.

5. ORGANISATION’S STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

1.To promote animal welfare education among schools, colleges and the community through training;

2.To develop and deliver practical advice on the prevention and control of noticeable and endemic diseases in Tanzanian livestock animals and donkeys;

3.To transform the way animals/ donkeys are treated and perceived by humans;

4.To build awareness on the importance of supplying adequate shelter, food, water and protection for donkeys;

5.To lobby for public and government changes for the benefit of people and animals, particularly donkeys;

6.To do training on proper harnessing, proper cart making and handling.
