ConnectUS

  • Mission

ConnectUS is a stand-alone nonprofit established to fill a need for quality programming for individuals with severe multiple disabilities. Our program is designed to provide stimulating activity for our members, as well as educational and social connections for student interns and volunteers. ConnectUS is based on the belief that everyone has something to offer, and that the needs of one can be an opportunity for another. Our goal is to make the connection happen.

    About Us

To give you an idea of our program, after some introduction, volunteers are each paired with a partner who has sever multiple impairments. Students with multiple impairments have more than one disability in intellectual, physical and/or functional abilities. They typically require intensive intervention and supports for activities of daily living and many use wheelchairs. Hand-over-hand you will follow the simple instructions at each station until a project is complete. Our completed projects are then donated to other local nonprofits.

To date, ConnectUS participants have made and donated over 2,000 dog biscuits to train rescue dogs, 1,500 felt puppets to schools around the world, and 2,500 cookies and muffins for lunches distributed to the homeless in Detroit all while involving multiply-disabled participants and their caregivers.
