Dog & Cat Shelter, Inc

About Us

"Our mission is to provide a shelter where unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats can be humanely housed until adopted to qualified homes." We serve Sheridan County, Wyoming, which is mostly rural. We accept and care for stray dogs and cats. If their owners do not claim them, we assume ownership and put them up for adoption. We accept owner surrenders for any reason. We also accept animals from Johnson County, WY and from Big Horn County, MT, which contains the Crow and Cheyenne Indian Reservations, a large poverty area. We also accept animals from kill shelters in the region. We have a vet on staff 3 days a week. All animals are spayed or neutered before being made available for adoption. We cooperate with rescue groups in Wyoming, Montana and Colorado. We also care for animals whose owners are evacuated for natural disasters, reside temporarily in the local Homeless Shelter, or who are placed in secret housing by the Advocacy Center to protect them from abusive spouses. We also sponsor an annual low-cost rabies clinic. Over 2000 animals come to the Shelter each year. Over 85% are returned to owners or adopted to new homes. We only euthanize if animals are aggressive or cannot be given a pain-free life. We work to improve that percentage while at the same time accepting any and all homeless dogs and cats regardless of their history.
