  • About Us

    Shared Living in the Berkshires

Leander House, Inc. is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to live and work, alongside other volunteers, with adults with intellectual disabilities in extended family-style homes. Since 1996 volunteers have joined us from around the world for 6 months or longer to help provide exceptional care to the individuals in our community. We are a small not-for-profit organization made up of 4 homes in the historic town of Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Great Barrington is located in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts where many visitors come for music, theater, hiking, skiing and other recreational and cultural activities. Our town was recently voted #1 Small Town in America by the Smithsonian Magazine. It is home to a number of Shared Living organizations, many of which welcome national and international volunteers therein creating a network of young people (mostly in their late teens and 20’s) with whom to develop life-long friendships. Volunteers finish their time with us having mastered English (if a non-English speaker) and having learned many skills that will be used throughout their lives.
