True Star Foundation (TSF) is a nonprofit organization that provides a creative outlet in the form of literary and professional development programs for predominately minority male and female youth, ages 11-18, in the metropolitan Chicago area. TSF's mission is to promote literacy and entrepreneurialism, reduce youth delinquency rates, and to provide training and resources so that there is a healthy transition for youth entering early adulthood.
Through 12 after-school an 4 in-school programs across the city, teams of urban youth collectively create True Star Magazine, True Star Jr. Magazine, True Star Radio (Broadcast on WCSU) and True Star Online - an interactive blog (www.truestaris.com). True Star has provided over 1,300 paid apprenticeships to Chicago youth since its inception in 2006.
