A Place To Be(ad) Me

  • About Us

A Place To Be(ad) Me offers supervised art therapy for children 7-12 who’ve experienced domestic abuse and trauma, and children in foster care. Our classes, which are taught by social workers, help affected children overcome the negative impacts of domestic trauma by providing a nurturing and imaginative outlet of rudimentary jewelry making where they color coordinate their feelings to the colors of the jewelry beads. For example, the children would list all the things they love about themselves or their hopes, wishes, and dreams, choose various beads that correlate to their feelings, and create pieces to be proud of. The children keep the jewelry as a visual reminder of affirming and positive self-beliefs - to wear and cherish. Through this program, we offer positive mentorship where the children feel seen, heard, and celebrated. We encourage them to create, dream, and grow while demonstrating everyday creative skills they can use to hone their resilience.
