About Us

ARUWE was founded in January 2000 with an overall aim of improving the living conditions of women in rural Areas by addressing problems of food insecurity and low incomes,domestic violence,poor health and sanitation.With over 10 years existence todate, first as a Community Based Development Organisation and to date as a non governmental Organisation, ARUWE seeks to increase gender equity and address the discriminative practices inhibiting women's potential in the communities. This organisation is one that has combined financial and technical assistance for rural women with empowerment and training programs. ARUWE has encouraged village women to organise themselves into groups, which has created strong bonds within members of the groups. Instead of struggling alone, now these women can work together to solve problems. ARUWE has focus on participatory, sustainable and empowerment projects. Our Mission is to support and advocate for the needs and rights of marginalized rural poor women to enable them initiate and manage their own socio-economic and development processes. Our Vision is a A world in which women and their children are able to realize their full social, economic, and civic potential ARUWE is a member of the National Association of Women organizations in Uganda (NAWOU). ARUWE geographically covers districts of Central, Eastern and North Eastern Uganda.
