About Us

The Arts Effect is a performing arts development company committed to challenging and supporting young, impassioned artists and their communities. Through the study and exploration of the performing arts, the creation of ambitious theatrical experiences, and the production of educational/outreach events, The Arts Effect will provide opportunities for up and-coming artists to receive the highest quality theater training, gain greater senses of self, spread awareness and ignite change through art, and have their voices heard.

The Arts Effect was established in 2007 by Tisch Alums Katie Cappiello and Meg McInerney. They were recently named "The Best Theater Group for Kids in NYC" by Nickelodeon/MTV. The Arts Effect was the winner of the Most Outstanding Ensemble Award at The New York International Fringe Festival (2008) for their original "girl power play" Keep Your Eyes Open, and has received support and accolades from influential people such as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Tina Fey (Actress, SNL, 30 Rock), Amy Poehler (Actress, SNL, Parks and Recreation), Eve Ensler (The Vagina Monologues, V-Day), and Sherri Shepherd (Co-Host of The View). Founders Katie Cappiello and Meg McInerney were honored in 2009 by becoming members of the National Women's Hall of Fame.
