About Us

Noor Theatre is dedicated to supporting, developing and presenting the work of theatre artists of Middle Eastern descent. As a vital presence in the theatrical landscape, we aim to create exceptional work that transcends cultural boundaries and speaks to all people.

Noor was founded in 2010 by NYC theatre makers Lameece Issaq, Maha Chehlaoui and Nancy Vitale and is currently a Company-in-Residence at New York Theatre Workshop. Noor, which means “light” in Arabic and Farsi, seeks to shed light on the stories, cultivate the artists and develop the audiences that will raise the cultural dialogue to a more intelligent and humane level. Through our readings, productions, and public speaking we hope to shift perceptions of Middle-Eastern people and affect real change.
