About Us

Small Island Developing States Network (SIDSnet) is a direct follow-up to the 1994 Barbados Programme of Action (BPoA). SIDSnet connects 43 Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Pacific, Caribbean, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean and African island nations. SIDSnet's main goal has been to utilise information and communication technologies (ICTs) to link SIDS in supporting the implementation of the sustainable development objectives of the BPoA. The project was launched in 1998 through UNDP's Sustainable Development Networking Programme (SDNP) and the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS). The Water Resources Management and Small Island Developing States Branch of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) currently administers the project.
