Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) is Boston's antipoverty agency, serving Greater Boston residents through its city-wide network of neighborhood-based organizations. ABCD provides innovative, timely programs that promote upward mobility and a higher quality of life for people and communities.
ABCD's mission is to empower disadvantaged people by providing them with the tools to overcome poverty, live with dignity, and achieve their full potential.
To fulfill this mission, ABCD uses a comprehensive approach that systematically addresses the range of barriers faced by households in poverty - from day-to-day crises to long-term needs for jobs and education.
Since its founding in 1961, ABCD has strived to be the voice and catalyst of empowerment and opportunity, providing hands-on assistance to those in need and responding promptly to emerging issues. Today, our capacity to bring about positive change impacts more than 95,000 low-income Boston-area families every year. ABCD seeks to be constantly innovative and entrepreneurial, while developing new programs to meet changing needs.
Through our network of neighborhood centers and hundreds of programs throughout the city, ABCD has the capability to serve diverse populations at every stage of their lives. To accomplish this goal, ABCD has developed a broad spectrum of programs to reach out to people in need and equip them with the skills and self-confidence they need to move forward in their lives.
The Elm Hill Family Service Center is one of ABCD’s 14 neighborhood sites. Located off of Roxbury’s Warren Street Corridor, Elm Hill serves Roxbury and North Dorchester residents.
