About Us

The mission of the Urban League movement is to enable African Americans to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights.

The Urban League of Middle Tennessee ULMT) is an affiliate of the National Urban League (NUL)>The National Urban League is a historic civil rights organization dedicated to economic empowerment in order to elevate the standard of living in historically underserved urban communities. Founded in 1910 and headquartered in New York City, the National Urban League spearheads the efforts of its local affiliates through the development of programs, public policy research and advocacy. Today, there are more than 100 local affiliates in 36 states and the District of Columbia, providing direct services that impact and improve the lives of more than 2 million people nationwide.

Your affiliate, The Urban League of Middle Tennessee (ULMT), founded in 1968, has served the greater Nashville community for 46 years. In 2014, ULMT touched more than 3,000 individuals who called or came into our offices looking for assistance. ULMT currently offers services in the areas of education and workforce development. Services include: Education: The National Urban League's Project Ready/NULITES college readiness and youth leaderhip initiative for 9th -12th grade students; After school literacy for youth enrolled at Glencliff and Una Elementary schools; Nashville Youth Training and Employment Corp at Maplewood High School, a career exploration and employment ready program for high school aged youth; Adult employment and career services; LabFour Computer training and certification; the National Urban League's Equity and Excellence education reform and advocacy intiative which includes the Put Our Children 1st: Common Core for Common Goals campaign; and the KNOW Hunger Nashville campaign in partnership with Tyson Foods.
