Equine Advocates is a national non-profit 501(c)(3) equine protection organization which is dedicated to the rescue and protection of horses, ponies, donkeys and mules. Founded in 1996, the organization has rescued countless equines from slaughter, abuse and neglect. In 2004, Equine Advocates established Safe Home Equine Rescue & Sanctuary, a 140-acre horse sanctuary located in Chatham, NY, which is also its official headquarters. The sanctuary is currently home to 68 rescued equines with another 32 currently boarded at other facilities. A Humane Equine Education Center was built on the sanctuary grounds in 2006. Groups of all ages have come for seminars, symposiums and tours of the sanctuary. Safe Home is now regarded as one of the best horse rescue and humane equine education centers in the nation.
