The Ndoto Project
Our mission is to open doors to higher education for young people in Kenya, using technology, social media, and human relationships to drive change.
In a globalized society, and with the developing world lagging behind the developed by significant margins, we are striving to close the gap in several areas: college education (by funding the cost of school for promising young leaders, through a combination of donor funding, microfinance, and job training), in technology, media literacy, and global awareness about issues affecting Africa and the world. In sum, we seek to cultivate educated and empowered leaders who care.
We do this by sending students to college, but also by equipping and training our students with the basic tools they require to share their stories with the world. For many, this means rudimentary access to technology (computers and the internet). Once access is established, through blogging, photography, social media, and other forms of sharing, they are given voices to inform and enlighten others outside of Africa about the personal struggles they face and the social and political problems they care about. Our attendant vision is an empowered youth and a brighter and a more hopeful future for Kenya, African civil society, and East Africa as a whole.
