Loretto Motherhouse Convent

About Us

The Loretto Motherhouse is a convent that currently houses approximately 100 vowed nuns, and also has an infirmary, a public art gallery, an extensive museum, and 760 acres of land.

Started in Loretto Kentucky in 1812 by three female educators who saw a need for advocacy, education, and change in rural Kentucky, the Loretto Community now spans 16 states and 4 countries. The Loretto Motherhouse, located in Marion County, between Springfield and Bardstown, is in constant need of people of all ages, skill levels, and capabilities.

Volunteers will be able to choose from a wide variety of work, from grounds maintenance, to room visits in the infirmary, to working with our local artist in the art gallery. We have a place for ANYONE who wants to do service. As we are a unique community, we are also very flexible with volunteer times Our Community Service Program Manager, Meghan, can be contacted at mgallahan@lorettocommunity.org.
