Botumsakor Community Development Organization

Andong Teuk is a small town located in the Cardamom mountains on the new National road between Koh Kong and Sre Ambel. Historically, villagers business used to sell wood and wildlife stock of the surrounding area. Little farming is done. BCDO (Botumsakor Community Development Organization) mission is to improve the quality of life for the villagers of Andoung Teuk and the protection of the environment in the area with a holistic approach.

With understanding of importance of natural resources, BCDO (Botumsakor Community Development Organization), a Non-profit organization, was established to offer a foreign languages and vocational training to villagers and poor children to raise awareness on environmental and biodiversity protection (fresh water and soil are vital for sustainable agriculture, and the forests surrounding Andong Teuk play a crucial role in both maintaining ground water level and preserving soil, plus giving natural living space for a wide range of endangered wildlife species). An important part of BCDO’s mission is the education of the young generation about the impact of deforestation and poaching and the advice about environment-friendly alternatives. To prevent of cutting firewood and drawing on natural products, organic farming and bio-gas and briquette installations are promoted.

To an extra income for the people of Andong Teuk, tourist information is provided to travelers and several guided tours are set up.
