Rye Historical Society
Founded in 1964, the Rye Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Rye community. The society operates the Square House Museum c. 1730, which operated as an inn and tavern in the 18th century, and the Knapp House Archives c. 1670 which serves as the society's library and research facility. We provide a range of educational programs for children, families and adults throughout the year both at the museum and through outreach initiatives at area schools. The Rye Historical Society has been accredited by the American Alliance of Museums since 1980.
