Based on the belief that all people deserve the dignity of a safe place to call home, Front Steps’ mission is to provide a pathway home through shelter, affordable housing, and community education.
Front Steps manages the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH) in downtown Austin and the Central Texas Recuperative Care Program.
The circumstances and needs of the homeless individuals and families that come to Front Steps span the spectrum. Some have been homeless for a very short time, having lost their job, their health insurance, or their home. Others have been living on the streets for months or years and are at a various stages of addressing their needs. They may be dealing with health issues, mental illness, substance abuse, or emotional crisis, in addition to income and housing needs.
Through shelter and permanent-housing programs, skills development, employment resources and more, Front Steps supports low-income workers, disabled, and homeless individuals to find lasting and affordable housing.
